About Creative Colour

I set up this blog to share my passion for art and design. ‘I was taught how to make and create by my mother. I trained in textile design, printing and weaving at Camberwell School of Art and I still love textiles in its many manifestations.I have had many craft books published, some  exploring and making the things myself, and others  writing about designers who are at the top of their  field.

My books include ‘The Art and Craft of Papier Mache’, published by Mitchell Beazley in the UK and Chronical in the USA. ‘Hearts’ a book of Romantic Gifts published by Conran Octopus in the UK. ‘The Hat Book’ published by Letts in the UK. ‘Rag Rug’ inspirations by Cassell in the UK ‘The Art and Craft of Applique’ published by Mitchell Beazley. ‘The Shirt off his back’ published by Jacqui Small came about from an idea I had when we slid into the 2008 recession, wondering what would happen to all those glorious shirts.

As with many in the art, craft and design world I have had what I call a portfolio career, designing making, doing makeovers.

In recent yers I have worked for many magazines and also run work shops, however since the Covid Pandemic and lockdown I have rediscovered painting. I have exhibited in a community art gallery and designed greetings cards. My latest venture is designing wallpapers for a Warwick based Company called Designer Claret.

This blog is a way of sharing some of the things that I create, see and read in the hope that it is of interest to you too.
